Optometry  is a branch of healthcare that studies  the optics of the eye and  eye health. I was introduced to this exciting field in the year 2008 and have successfully completed my Masters in Optometry in 2014. During my tenure as an optometry trainee, I realized the immense potential that exists in this field of eye care. I began my career as an optometrist at L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India  in 2014. During my clinical work, my curious mind always focused at the clinical challenges that an optometrist faces in their regular practice. This inquisitiveness made me understand that unless  research is integrated with clinical work, a lacunae would remain in the clinical practice. One of the most thought provoking clinical question that I was keen on is to understand the development of visual functions in young children with neurological impairment. The rehabilitation services provided to these children in most cases do not have a solid objective measure to track progress. The topic of research that I have chosen will help me to address this issue to some extent.

The opportunity from the Wellcome Trust /DBT India Alliance gave me a chance to start my career as a clinician-researcher.  Now I hope to maintain a good clinic-research balance. With the help of  the Research Training Fellowship I hope to learn  important skill sets in research which  will help me establishing my career as a researcher.
