In our third issue we have announcements for our Early Career Fellowships (basic research scheme) and have also featured some of our recently awarded Fellows. Public Engagement corner includes update on the upcoming Public Lecture by Prof Shankar Balasubramanian (University of Cambridge) as part of the DNA@70 Public Lecture Series and includes the interview of Dr Karen Nelson (President, The J Craig Venter Institute, Maryland USA) along with some interesting examples of Public Engagement. Read about our Fellows, Drs Bushra Ateeq (IIT Kanpur), VikramMathews (CMC, Vellore) and Lolitika Mandal’s (IISER, Mohali) recently published work in India Alliance Research Highlight section. This issue also features our Intermediate Fellow, Dr Mahak Sharma (IISER, Mohali) in the India Alliance Fellow Spotlight section. Our Early Career Fellow, Dr Rajiv Sarkar (CMC, Vellore), takes us through his field research in the Jawadhu Hills in an insightful article titled ‘Hooking the Hookworms in the hills of Tamil Nadu’. Renowned academic philosopher, Prof Thomas Metzinger shares with us in an interview, his views on the challenges in his field, about his initiative OPEN Mind and gives great advice to young researchers. In the opinion piece, ‘Stay weird, stay different’, our Grants Adviser, Dr Bela Desai provide historical and modern day perspectives on women in STEM fields in India.
