During uncertain times of a pandemic, when fear and panic spreads faster than the contagion, it is important to ensure that interpretation and communication of scientific information is accurate, timely and more importantly, understood by the public.The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown unprecedented and unique communication challenges, leading to spread of misinformation that could bedevil the response to this crisis. It is imperative to counter misinformation and reinforce scientific temper with empathy. As the world battles this huge crisis, we deeply value the role of journalists, field reporters, community media professionals, radio professionals and others in the business of communication. 

The Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance, THSTI, IAVI and Nature India bring to you a special 'Webinar on ‘COVID-19: Ask The Experts’ Part II. The webinar provides journalists, community media reporters and other media professionals, and those seeking credible information on the coronavirus pandemic an opportunity to interact with experts to better understand the science and public health impact of COVID- 19. The experts will also discuss the best practices and strategies of fact-finding and reporting. 

Speakers:

Dr. Shahid Jameel | CEO | Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance

Shahid is a virologist known for his research on hepatitis E virus. He is the Fellow of all the three Indian Science Academies including viz. National Academy of Sciences, India, Indian Academy of Sciences, and Indian National Science Academy.

Dr. Anant Bhan | President | Global Health and Bio-ethics | International Association of Bioethics

Anant is trained as a medical doctor with a masters’ degree in bioethics from the University of Toronto. He is a researcher in the fields of Global Health, Health Policy and Bioethics and is also an Adjunct Visiting Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College and the Centre for Ethics, Yenepoya University, Mangaluru, India.

Subhra Priyadarshini| Chief Editor| Nature India

Subhra is an award-winning science journalist and the Chief Editor of Nature India. She has covered and overseen the coverage of the SARS, H1N1, Nipah and MERS virus outbreaks. She closely follows Asia’s science and technology scene, and actively contributes to the cause of science communication and scientific temper in the region.
